I’m the first to admit, I have NO idea what I’m doing when it comes to launching and maintaining a personal blog. I own and operate a small marketing and public relations business, so I get why businesses need to blog and create content to communicate with customers, colleagues and vendors. But personally, I’m at a loss. That’s why I’ve decided to just dive in.
Another admission for my first blog, I’m a Pinterest junkie. I spend my evenings after my boys go to bed perusing my own feed, which often takes me to my favorite online home and cooking magazines and other personal and professional blogs about the things I love. I’m drawn to pictures of thoughtfully organized closets, kitchens and bathrooms, perfectly dressed and accessorized faceless women, deliciously styled plates of healthy food, goblets holding refreshing beverages, pots of homemade lavender body scrubs, I could go on and on. I LOVE Pinterest.
I also found myself applying the things I found on Pinterest to my own life. I haven’t ever done exact reproductions of recipes or home design projects, but I have found myself modifying and creating my own versions of things I found on Pinterest, and more than anything, I’ve wanted to document and keep track of my creations.
I’m almost finished with a bathroom remodel, and I’m super excited about how it’s all turning out. It’s clean, crisp, modern and everything I envisioned. I’m going to do another bathroom in the next 12 months, so I wanted a place to keep track of what I learned on the first bathroom. What better place than my own blog?
I have a Christmas morning breakfast that I’ve made for four years running. It’s elegant, yet super easy to prepare, and most importantly, it’s delicious. I found myself wanting to take pictures to document the menu and the meal. I have a New Year’s Eve menu that consists of lobster tails, clarified butter and a meyer lemon risotto that is TAS-TEY. It’s a beautiful plate of food, and I want a place to document it. What better place than my own blog?
My husband has a milestone birthday this year. I’m not going to say which one, but it’s a BIG one. I’m planning a milestone vacation to go with it. My own blog will be a perfect place to keep track of plans and ideas.
Finally, and most importantly, my boys have grand parents who live miles (mostly hundreds) away. They’re doing so much that my parents and my husband’s parents miss. What better way to share what they’re up to than my own blog?
So here I am. Officially a blogger. What’s the saying? “Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re right.” Well, I think I can.
